Parma Ham Festival – XIII edition
From 10th to 19th of September in the Parma Ham production zone
From 10th of September the XIII Parma Ham Festival will start. Like last year, the calendar features several cultural and culinary events and exhibitions, all in the small towns of the province of Parma, famous for their ham production.
As always, there will be a lot of activities, such as Parma Ham tastings, tours, and different sport activities such as trekking, mountain bike rides, and golf tournaments. There will be events to entertain the children as well. The programme will be full of activities for them such as sport games, golf tournaments, the Parma Ham trophy, and a puppet show by the “I burattini dei Ferrari” puppet company.
During the Festival farms and factories will open their doors to the public, offering tours and free tasting events. The most important initiative of the Festival is “Finestre Aperte” (Open Doors), which will allow visitors to see the process of manufacturing and to discover the secrets of the production of Parma Ham. A bus will be available to transport the visitors to the different factories of the Parma Ham production zone.
As well as visiting food markets, street theatres, and eating out in the 12 small towns of the Parma hills, there is also the unmissable chance to visit the “Museo del Prosciutto e dei Salumi” of Parma. This museum has been built in the former Langirano’s cattle market.
Friday 17th, Saturday 18th, and Sunday 19th the Festival will end with an extraordinary event. There will be markets selling traditional products and offering samples in the squares of Parma. In the other hand, Saturday 18th, in the “Teatro Regio” Opera House a charity auction will be held in order to raise money for victims of Abruzzo earthquake.
For the first time this year “Fiere di Parma” will be coordinating the Festival. This year the main objectives will be to promote the Festival internationally and to prepare the event in a professional manner.
